This was my first race since the Bournemouth Bay Half Marathon a month ago. I haven’t been running too much in the last few weeks, mainly doing a short run in the week and one long run at the weekend as i’m just too busy to fit more in.
This is the third year I’ve run at Lymington and as always the good organisation, big crowd and well thought out circular(ish) route made for a good race. Kris ran with Amy in the pushchair; they beat me last year but since she’s now getting quite a bit heavier, I thought I was in for a chance to give them a race. Not so. Despite Kris having run 22 miles yesterday they still beat me! I’m narrowing the gap though 🙂
At 10am nearly 1000 runners set off. I started at a steady pace that I could stick to and stayed fairly consistent through the race. The sun came out about two minutes in and I really regretted wearing my long sleeved ice breaker under my club top. I ended up stopping at both water stations for a drink as I was so hot. The route takes you from Woodside Park to the sea front path via country lanes and then back. I did go for a bit of ‘sprint’ (used loosely) finish and was happy with what I think is a new PB of 47:03. I must admit that if you had told me a couple of years ago I could do that time I would have laughed, trying to get a sub 60 minute time doesn’t feel that long ago to me! So in all a good race which we will hopefully do again next year.
In the meantime I need to get my head down and focus on the 52 mile Maxi-Race which I am in theory running in two weeks time. It has 5186 metres of ascent and the same of descent and I am feeling really unprepared for this one – eeeeeek!
